Open Spaces in high-volume Residential Buildings in Lower Austria
Currently, criteria for open space planning in regard to supported high-volume residential buildings is just partly embedded in Lower Austria: A concept for open spaces within the advisory committee for design and the section process for architecture and planning is requested. Also, criteria for green roofs and gardens are fed into the housing subsidy.
Approaches for semi-public or public green spaces were developed within “nature in the garden”: Communities, nursery schools, schools, institutions with therapy gardens and initiatives which aim to implement community gardens have been consulted.
The present project connects high-volume residential buildings with content of „nature in the garden“.
The following work steps are planned:
- Implementation of an open space and potential analysis for five selected existing as well as five planned high-volume residential buildings. On this basis, specific proposals for the study areas are formulated and the findings discussed in a stakeholder workshop with relevant building contractors and members of the advisory committee for design of Lower Austria
- Review of the “nature in the garden”-criteria concerning their practicability and transferability and transfer of “nature in the garden”-principles as well as user-oriented open space planning-principles in regard to high-volume residential buildings; discussion of the findings of this work step in two stakeholder workshops involving relevant building contractors, facility managements and members of the advisory committee for design of Lower Austria
The previous project findings are processes, reflected and synthesised and a report “Principles for design and care of high quality and nature-near open spaces in high-volume residential buildings in Lower Austria” is generated. Handouts for the advisory committee for design and the presentation of the project findings complete the project.
