The project deals with the issue of using living plants as material for technical constructions in the landscape through bioengineering. The topic is prepared for children and adolescents of schools in Vienna and Lower Austria which are involved into the present project.
Using plants instead of technical constructions offers various ecological and aesthetical benefits and helps to conserve valuable ecosystems and habitats. Within the project children and adolescents get to know applications of bioengineering in their everyday school environment as well as in natural environments (slopes, embankments and watercourses) in order to arouse their interest in this field. As a result, they are encouraged to choose a profession in bioengineering, vegetation technologies or landscape construction. In addition, the children and adolescents are sensitised for connections between natural sciences and technology.
