Gender Equality Academy

 

Even though education and training initiatives on ‘Gender Equality (GE) in research’ already exist at European and
national level, there is a growing need to develop, structure and coordinate these activities. This project aims to do
so, furthering the development of capacity-building formats and models including the design of accompanying
training materials for trainers, practitioners and researchers and making them available to the widest possible
audience.

Sustainable green maintenance, maintenance, maintenance of vertical
Greenery including legal aspects

The value of the greening of buildings has been increasing because of a continuous decreaseof green spaces in urban areas and concurrent global changes of the climate which causesurban heat islands particularly in cities. Vertical greenings, like ground-bound greenings withclimbing plants or complex facade-bound greenings in exterior spaces are effectivecountermeasures and solution to solve the described issue. Especially vertical greenings havea great potential within the context of densification of urban areas because no land area is consumed.

Urban Cool Down

Urban Cool Down

The objective of the project “Urban Cool Down“ is to define new ways, how a comprehensive cooling can be achieved and how an overheating of urban places can be countered. In two case studies the town Wolkersdorf in Lower Austria and the 18th district of Vienna are to prove the cooling effect by landscape planning and open space planning measures in the combination with innovative cooling technology.

Currently, there are 130.000 people with dementing disabilities in Austria. Most of the affected people live at home. People with dementia as well as their relatives withdraw from different social areas over the time which comes along with the reduction of their mobility outside of their home. But, activities outside of home are often a condition for social interactions.

The project addresses the question, which specific effects dementia has on the affected people´s mobility outside of their home. The narrative collection of experiences and stories of different occupational groups of public transport enterprises as well as of relatives of people with dementia provide a central contribution to answer the research question.

Design of green and open spaces as dynamic field of development for quality of life through social innovations

The present project „Smart Pölten“ is based on the preceding study „Smart&GreenLivingLab“ (FFG project 855516) and focuses consequently on creating social innovations with a broad «social impact». The necessary grounds for this intention are laid by specific elements of a traditional as well as innovative planning for green and open spaces. These elements will be implemented on several locations as so-called “stepping stones” on the basis of an empowerment-based participative planning process with the citizens of St. Pölten.
